'PKR Today is No Longer the PKR I Knew': MP Resigns from Party Leadership Over System Access Dispute

Lee Chean Chung, the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya, has resigned from the central leadership council of the People's Justice Party (PKR) after 18 years with the party. He announced his resignation from the central committee today, though he affirmed his continued membership in PKR and his commitment to serving as an MP until the next general election.

After 18 years of joining the People's Justice Party and eight years holding positions at the party's central level, today I officially resign as a Member of the Central Leadership Council.

Chung stated that his decision stems from dissatisfaction with the party's current trajectory. A key point of contention is the cancellation of access to the MyKhas system, which is crucial for managing parliamentary constituency allocations and the "Mesra Rakyat" (People's Friendly) program in his Petaling Jaya constituency. This cancellation, effective May 29, has reportedly halted his office's ability to proceed with these essential functions.

However, I remain a party member and will continue to perform my duties as a Member of the Dewan Rakyat until Parliament is dissolved.

He expressed frustration over the lack of a satisfactory explanation from the party leadership regarding the MyKhas system issue. Chung noted that while a Deputy Secretary-General issued a media statement attributing the cancellation to "political choices," PKR has yet to provide him or his constituents with a formal explanation. He emphasized that his request for a reasonable explanation is straightforward.

My demand is very simple. I hope the party can provide a reasonable explanation.

Reflecting on his long tenure, which included roles as Research Officer to Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and various party positions like Treasurer-General and Director of Communications, Chung declared that PKR today is not the party he once knew. He criticized the current leadership for prioritizing self-preservation over correcting party mistakes, stating he can no longer continue in leadership or cooperate with them.

Until now, only a Deputy Secretary-General made a media statement stating that this was the result of political choices, whereas PKR has not yet provided any official explanation to me and the voters.
