The Liberal Party (PL) convention in Santa Catarina on Saturday, August 1, featured a video presentation that included the voice and images of former President Jair Bolsonaro. The event was attended by Flávio Bolsonaro, the party's candidate for president.

This occurrence follows a week after Justice Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) raised questions about the use of an artificial intelligence (AI) video of the former president during a previous PL convention that confirmed the senator's presidential candidacy. The campaign for Flávio Bolsonaro was contacted for comment, and the space remains open.

Images of Jair Bolsonaro were displayed at various points during the convention, which also officially nominated Carlos Bolsonaro and Caroline de Toni for the Senate race in Santa Catarina. Jorginho Mello (PL) was confirmed as the candidate for state governor's re-election.

Towards the end of the convention, a video was shown featuring statements attributed to the former president. It remains unclear whether the voice was AI-generated or Bolsonaro's own, as the included phrases, such as "my dream is your dream" and "we will revolutionize Brazil," have been previously stated by him. The video also included a personal reflection: "In the most difficult moment of my life, I only asked that God not leave my seven-year-old daughter an orphan."

Earlier this week, following Moraes' inquiry, Bolsonaro's defense team informed the STF that the former president had no prior knowledge of the video shown at the convention. Flávio Bolsonaro also stated that his father was unaware of any AI video being shown. He asserted that the party had studied the legislation and found no issues with the video's use.
