Plenković to Visit Gospić for Series of Meetings on Illegal Waste Cleanup

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković will travel to Gospić with members of the government for a series of meetings focused on the cleanup of illegally dumped waste in the city.

The meetings will bring together representatives of the relevant institutions, the Lika-Senj County prefect, all mayors and municipal heads in the county, and citizen initiatives. The discussions will address the activities already being undertaken to deal with the waste site.

At the same time, tap water across Lika-Senj County has again been confirmed as safe for consumption. The latest emergency sampling took place on August 19, when 14 samples were collected from public water-supply systems.

The county public health institute, working with the Croatian Institute of Public Health, collected samples at points of consumption in the Senj, Tonkovića Vrilo and Mrđenovac supply zones. Laboratory results found all samples to be health-compliant, with no values exceeding prescribed limits. Testing also specifically examined PFAS compounds, often called “forever chemicals” because they persist in the environment. None was detected above the determination limit in any sample.
