Households Can Get Up to €8,400 for Energy Independence: How to Apply

Croatian households will be able to seek funding for heat pumps, solar installations and battery storage under a new €38 million public call opening on Sept. 2 at 9 a.m.

The programme marks the first time the fund will support household battery systems for storing electricity. Batteries can only be included with a photovoltaic installation. Applications must be submitted electronically through the eFZOEU information system, accessed via fondovi.gov.hr.

The Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund will cover up to half of eligible investment costs. Households at risk of energy poverty can receive up to 70%, provided their average monthly equivalent income in 2025 did not exceed €1,341.42 per household member. Applicants must prove eligibility with a certificate from Croatia’s Tax Administration.

Support for heat pumps reaches €6,250, or €8,750 for households at risk of energy poverty. Photovoltaic systems qualify for up to €6,000, capped at €600 per kilowatt of installed capacity, while eligible low-income households can receive up to €8,400, or €840 per kilowatt. Battery grants reach €5,600, or €7,840 for qualifying households.

Fund director Luka Balen said renewable-energy production in Croatia had grown strongly, helped by government incentives. “Our own electricity production is no longer a rarity, but an increasingly pronounced trend among citizens and entrepreneurs,” he said. The fund wants the new programme to help more households reduce energy costs and increase their energy independence.
