PLN Targets Kalselteng Power System Recovery by Early August 2026

PT PLN aims to restore the interconnected power system in South and Central Kalimantan (Kalselteng) by the first week of August 2026. This ambitious target hinges on the swift repair of several power generation units that have faced disruptions.

General Manager of PLN Unit Induk Distribusi Kalselteng, Iwan Soelistijono, confirmed that all available personnel are working tirelessly with power plant operators to expedite the repair process. The issues stem from a generator at PLTU Asam-Asam and problems with a boiler pipe leak and turbine at two Independent Power Producer (IPP) facilities. These disruptions have reduced the system's supply capacity, leading to electricity shortages in parts of Kalselteng.

PLN is intensifying technical coordination with all relevant parties to ensure each repair stage is completed as quickly as possible, without compromising safety or quality. "Based on current progress, we are targeting the Kalselteng power system to gradually recover in the first week of August 2026, as the generation units are brought back online in stages after all testing is declared safe," Iwan stated. During this recovery period, PLN is implementing controlled and measured load shedding in certain areas to maintain system stability while repairs are underway.

To support the recovery, PLN is urging the public to conserve electricity, particularly between 6 PM and 9 PM WITA. Citizens are advised to switch off unused appliances, set air conditioning to above 24 degrees Celsius, and use energy-efficient equipment. "We thank all customers for their support and understanding. Public participation in using electricity efficiently will help maintain system balance during the recovery process," Iwan added. PLN has apologized for the inconvenience caused by the power supply disruptions.
