PNM Builds Better Schools for Remote Children's Hopes

In the remote village of Wae Moto, Manggarai Barat, East Nusa Tenggara, children face daily challenges with inadequate school facilities and sanitation. Recognizing this, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) has stepped in to revitalize the local elementary school, SD Inpres Wae Moto, as part of its "PNM Peduli" initiative.

The company's efforts focus on creating a safer, more comfortable, and healthier learning environment. This includes repairing classrooms and improving sanitation and hygiene access, tailoring facilities to the school's specific needs. For the students, the school is more than just a place of learning; it's a beacon of hope for a better future, seen as a pathway out of the limitations faced by communities in Indonesia's frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions.

Mariva Yankezia, a 10-year-old student, embodies this spirit, expressing her determination to study hard to make her parents proud. PNM's Director, Kindaris, highlighted that the company's empowerment programs extend beyond microfinance for women entrepreneurs. He stressed the importance of business mentoring and its impact on family well-being, particularly children's education. "Empowerment is not just about providing capital, but equally important is business mentoring so that the benefits can be felt by the family, especially their children," Kindaris stated.

Kindaris added that a conducive learning environment is crucial for educational quality. In areas with limited access to clean water and sanitation, proper hygiene facilities are vital for student health and optimal learning. PNM believes its empowerment efforts should benefit the next generation, noting that 14 of SD Inpres Wae Moto's 64 students are children of PNM Mekaar clients. The revitalization aims to provide these children with a better learning environment, enabling them to pursue their potential and aspirations.
