Pogacar wins record-equaling fifth Tour de France title

Tadej Pogacar has etched his name further into cycling history, clinching his fifth Tour de France title after navigating the final stage safely into Paris. The 27-year-old Slovenian rider now stands alongside some of the sport's most revered figures, having achieved this remarkable feat.

Pogacar's previous victories came in 2020, 2021, 2024, and 2025. With this latest triumph, he joins an exclusive club of five-time winners, which includes Belgian icon Eddy Merckx, Spain's Miguel Indurain, and Frenchmen Jacques Anquetil and Bernard Hinault. "I'm really incredibly proud to be a fifth time winner of the biggest race in the world," Pogacar stated after his victory.

He completed the grueling 3,197-kilometer race in 73 hours, 56 minutes, and 26 seconds. Pogacar finished the general classification a commanding six minutes and 26 seconds ahead of Belgium's Remco Evenepoel, with Mexico's Isaac del Toro securing third place.

This year's race saw Pogacar win five individual stages, bringing his career total to 26. This places him fourth on the all-time list for stage wins, trailing only Mark Cavendish (35), Eddy Merckx (34), and Bernard Hinault (28). His dominance was particularly evident in the preceding mountain stages, where he effectively secured his overall lead.

The final stage itself was shortened to 88.7 kilometers due to wildfires affecting southwestern France. Other jersey winners included Denmark's Mads Pedersen for the green jersey (sprinter), Ecuador's Richard Carapaz for the polka-dot jersey (mountains), and Isaac del Toro for the white jersey (best young rider).
