Poland Receives First Advanced Radar Satellite from ICEYE, Boosting Defense Capabilities

Poland has taken a significant leap forward in its defense capabilities with the official handover of its first MikroSAR radar reconnaissance satellite from the Finnish company ICEYE. This momentous occasion, marked by a ceremony at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw, signifies the beginning of a new era for the Polish Armed Forces, ushering in a "new, cosmic dimension" to their operations. The satellite is the first of six ordered under a contract worth nearly 900 million Polish złoty, signed just a year ago.

Having independent capabilities to operate in space is a fulfillment of the decisions from the NATO summit in The Hague. Poland is fulfilling its commitments. We are spending more and building the capabilities of the defense industry.

He emphasized that possessing independent space-based operational capabilities fulfills Poland's obligations under NATO summits and demonstrates the nation's dedication to increasing defense spending and bolstering its domestic defense industry. The timely delivery and operational readiness achieved within a year set a new global standard, as noted by Rafał Modrzewski, CEO of ICEYE, who praised the collaborative spirit and determination of both parties.

At the end of April, we proudly handed over to the Polish Armed Forces a tool that strengthens their reconnaissance potential and opens a new, cosmic dimension for their operations. The MikroSAR satellites offer unparalleled Earth observation capabilities, functioning independently of weather and lighting conditions. Equipped with advanced SAR radar technology, they can capture detailed images with resolutions up to 25 cm per pixel, allowing for comprehensive monitoring of any region worldwide. This technology enables precise surveillance of borders, maritime areas, and other points of interest.
