Police apprehend suspected impersonator, recover security uniforms in A’Ibom

Authorities in Akwa Ibom have apprehended a suspect accused of impersonating a police inspector. The arrest occurred during a routine stop-and-search operation in Uyo, where the individual was riding a motorcycle without a license plate. The suspect initially presented a police warrant card identifying him as Inspector Daniel.

His conduct and responses, however, raised reasonable suspicion among the operatives, prompting a more thorough search.

However, his behavior raised suspicions among the arresting officers, leading to a more thorough investigation. A subsequent search uncovered another official identity card belonging to the Nigerian Correctional Service, further fueling the belief that the suspect was fraudulently posing as a security official. This discovery prompted a follow-up operation at his residence in Ikot Ekpene.

During the search of the suspect's home, police recovered a significant cache of items. These included police berets, buttons, insignia, rank badges, and Nigerian Correctional Service uniforms. Additionally, a military camouflage sweater, a lawyer's wig, and several pairs of desert boots were found. The suspect is currently undergoing intensive interrogation as investigators work to uncover the full extent of his activities and identify any potential accomplices.
