Police arrest 10 for attempted murder in Osun

The Osun State Police Command has apprehended 10 individuals across two distinct operations, addressing alleged violent crimes in Modakeke and an invasion of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. In Modakeke, four suspects were arrested on August 9, 2026, following a petition to the Commissioner of Police. They face charges including conspiracy, attempted murder, assault, and unlawful possession of firearms. Police recovered a locally manufactured firearm and a pump-action gun from the residences of two of the suspects. These individuals are identified as wives of known figures in the area. The police stated that the suspects are cooperating with the ongoing investigation. In a separate incident, six suspected members of an unlawful society were arrested by the Violent Crime Response Unit. This operation followed reports of an invasion at the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, where two students were injured. The arrested individuals have confessed to belonging to the Aye confraternity. Investigations are continuing in both cases, with efforts underway to apprehend additional suspects linked to the Modakeke incident. The police plan to prosecute all suspects upon completion of their investigations.
