Police arrest five over burglary, cannabis possession in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended five individuals in connection with separate incidents of alleged burglary and possession of illicit substances. The arrests, made during routine patrols, have led to the recovery of stolen household items and other valuables.

On August 3, 2026, at about 1400hrs, a VCRU patrol team, while on routine patrol at Doya Quarters, Bauchi, acting on reasonable suspicion, intercepted a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) with registration number TRR123VD conveying three occupants.

In one operation, operatives intercepted a tricycle carrying three occupants suspected of involvement in a burglary. The police recovered four boxes of new shoes, assorted clothes, jewelry, a 6kg gas cylinder, a 32-inch LG television, and a tabletop gas cooker. Preliminary interrogations suggest the suspects confessed to breaking into a dwelling in Unguwar Sarakuna, with one accomplice still at large.

Upon search, the team recovered four boxes containing assorted new shoes, clothes and jewellery, one 6kg gas cylinder, one 32-inch LG flat-screen television and one tabletop gas cooker. During preliminary interrogation, the suspects voluntarily confessed to conspiring with one Nanu (not his real name), who is currently at large, to break into a dwelling house at Unguwar Sarakuna and steal the items.

The wife of the property owner confirmed the items belonged to them, noting that some clothes and a gold earring were missing. This recovery highlights the effectiveness of the police's proactive patrols in the Doya Quarters and surrounding areas.

In her statement, the wife disclosed that she travelled to Jos on July 31, 2026, and left the property in her room. However, she alleged that some of the clothes in the boxes and a gold earring were missing.

In a separate incident on the same day, two more suspects were arrested for allegedly possessing suspected cannabis. They were reportedly seen exchanging two parcels of dried leaves believed to be marijuana in the Bayan Gari area. The police are continuing their investigations into both cases, aiming to apprehend all involved parties and bring them to justice.

On the same August 3, 2026, at about 1600hrs, the same VCRU patrol team, while on routine patrol at Bayan Gari, intercepted and arrested two suspects identified as Mansur Sani, 25, of Bakin Kura, Bauchi, and Umar Muhammad, 30, of the same address.
