Police Arrest Five Pakistanis in Benue, Recover 35 Phones

Benue State Police have apprehended five Pakistani nationals in separate operations in Otukpo and Ugbokolo, recovering a total of 35 mobile phones. The arrests were the result of intelligence-led operations targeting the foreigners' movements within the state.

Three suspects, Younas Mohammad, 36; Ahmad Nunil, 38; and Aslam Muhammad, 46, were intercepted on August 4 at Adoka Motor Park in Otukpo. They claimed to be in the area to market cosmetics and mobile gadgets, but police noted they possessed none of their purported products, raising suspicions about their activities.

Two more Pakistani nationals, Juma Sharif, 30, and Muhammed Sharif, 25, were arrested the following day in Ugbokolo. Police found 11 Tecno Camon 50 Pro phones with them. Further investigation led to the recovery of an additional 23 Tecno Camon 50 Pro phones and one Infinix Hot 60 phone.

The five suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Makurdi. Police suspect the phones may be a cover for "clandestine activities" in rural areas, especially as the suspects have limited English proficiency. The command assured residents that these operations are part of a proactive strategy to identify security threats and safeguard the public.
