Police arrest nurse, woman over baby abduction in Jigawa hospital

Jigawa State Police have apprehended a 25-year-old nursing officer and a 20-year-old woman in connection with the alleged abduction of a toddler from Babura General Hospital. The one-and-a-half-year-old boy was subsequently rescued from the female suspect.

The operatives, acting on credible intelligence and investigative leads, tracked the suspected female accomplice, identified as 20-year-old Khadija Aliyu of Kinkinau Quarters, Kaduna State, to the outskirts of the town.

The state police public relations officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the arrests, stating that the operation followed a distress call from the hospital. Police operatives swiftly launched an investigation, tracking the female suspect, identified as Khadija Aliyu from Kaduna State, to the outskirts of the town.

Operatives arrested the suspect while she was in possession of the abducted one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy.

Aliyu was found in possession of the abducted child. The investigation then led to the arrest of the nursing officer, Sadik Sale Yahaya, who is attached to Babura General Hospital. Preliminary findings suggest Yahaya was complicit in the conspiracy to facilitate the criminal act.

The nursing officer was allegedly involved in the conspiracy with the woman to carry out the criminal act.

During interrogation, Aliyu reportedly confessed to intending to sell the child for ₦2 million, with plans to take him to an orphanage in Kaduna State. Police are currently verifying this confession and gathering further evidence. The rescued child is in protective custody and will be reunited with his family after necessary verification procedures. Both suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues to uncover the full scope of the alleged conspiracy.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the female suspect allegedly intended to take the child to an orphanage in Kaduna State and sell him for the sum of ₦2 million.
