Police arrest six in connection with 12-year-old boy's murder in Parque Rodó quarries

Uruguayan police have apprehended six suspects in the fatal shooting of a 12-year-old boy. The incident occurred a month ago during a gathering with car races at the Parque Rodó quarries. Investigators from the Homicide Department conducted eight raids in the Maroñas neighborhood, leading to the arrests.

According to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, the operation aimed to detain individuals involved in the attack on July 24. The shooting took place on Rambla Presidente Wilson and Domingo Sarmiento, also injuring five other people.

Under the supervision of prosecutor Sabrina Flores, the team gathered sufficient evidence to identify at least six people linked to the assault. The arrested individuals include five young men aged 20, 22, and 25, and one 20-year-old woman. One of the detainees has a prior criminal record. They are now in judicial custody.

During the operation, police confiscated four firearms, including a pistol, a revolver, and two rifles. Shell casings and ammunition were also seized for forensic analysis. Two cars were impounded for further investigation.
