Video captures Uruguay bank robbers fleeing with cash, weapons

A brazen daylight robbery targeted a Banco República (BROU) branch in Pando, Canelones, Uruguay, on Monday afternoon. Video footage captured the moment three masked individuals and one with their face exposed fled the scene with at least one bag of cash, along with firearms.

Three of them came out hooded through the main door of the premises with at least a bag of cash, while another escaped with his face uncovered. Furthermore, firearms can be seen in the video.

The suspects escaped in a black Mercedes Benz, but their getaway was short-lived. Police pursued the vehicle, which was eventually found abandoned in a ditch at the intersection of Eudoro Melo and Ruta 101 in Barros Blancos. Forensic experts are currently examining the abandoned car.

Following the abandonment of the Mercedes Benz, the criminals attempted to steal another vehicle from a nearby residence. According to the homeowners, they forcefully entered the house after their demand for car keys was refused. Security camera footage from the house recorded this second attempted robbery, during which the suspects left with only some documents.

They demanded the keys, and after receiving a 'no' as a response, they broke a window and entered by force.

Authorities have launched a coordinated search operation to apprehend the perpetrators. The police aviation unit, "Águila," is providing aerial support, while medical teams attended to the bank's guard, who sustained a blow to the head but is reported to be in good condition. The general manager of BROU confirmed that both staff and customers were unharmed during the incident.
