Police arrest suspected vandal after electrocution in Enugu

Police in Enugu State have arrested a 23-year-old man, Nnaji Chidiebere, who was electrocuted while attempting to steal from a power transformer. The incident occurred on August 17 in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area, causing panic among residents.

Police officers attached to the Udenu Division responded swiftly to community alerts and found the suspect unconscious at the scene.

Community members discovered Chidiebere trapped and severely burned inside the transformer enclosure. Police officers responded swiftly, evacuating him to a medical facility. He was resuscitated and transferred to a specialist hospital for intensive care. Upon regaining consciousness, he claimed to have acted alone.

However, preliminary investigations suggest Chidiebere is linked to ongoing transformer vandalism in the area. Detectives are working to uncover the full extent of his activities and identify any potential accomplices. The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, commended the community's vigilance and reiterated the command's commitment to protecting public utility infrastructure.
