Police arrest three suspected cable vandals in Yobe State

The Yobe State Police Command has announced the arrest of three individuals suspected of vandalizing critical national infrastructure, specifically power cables and transformer components. The arrests are part of an ongoing effort to curb such criminal activities within the state.

During the operation, two large bundles of power cables were recovered from the suspect.

Operatives from the Area Command in Gashua, acting on intelligence, apprehended Abubakar Idris, a 27-year-old aluminum pot maker, on July 23, 2026. He was allegedly found in possession of two large bundles of power cables. Further investigation led to the arrest of two more suspects, identified as Samaila Suleiman, 25, and Ibrahim Ado, 26.

The Yobe State Police Command has zero tolerance for vandalism, destruction of public infrastructure and other acts of economic sabotage.

During the operation, police recovered not only the suspected stolen power cables and transformer parts but also a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) and an unregistered Boxer motorcycle, believed to have been used to transport the illicit items. The command is continuing its investigation to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate and to determine the ownership of the recovered materials.
