Police arrest three suspected vandals in Yobe, recover stolen cables

The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of vandalizing critical national infrastructure, recovering stolen power cables and transformer components. The arrests are part of the command's sustained efforts to combat the destruction of public utilities across the state.

During the operation, two large bundles of power cables were recovered from the suspect.

Operatives from the Area Command in Gashua, acting on intelligence, arrested Abubakar Idris, 27, a pot maker, on July 23, 2026. He was allegedly found with two large bundles of stolen power cables. Further investigation led to the apprehension of two more suspects, Samaila Suleiman, 25, and Ibrahim Ado, 26.

The Yobe State Police Command has zero tolerance for vandalism, destruction of public infrastructure and other acts of economic sabotage.

During the operation, police also recovered a tricycle and an unregistered motorcycle, believed to have been used to transport the stolen items. Investigations are ongoing to identify other syndicate members and determine the origin of the recovered materials.

All tactical and investigative units have been directed to intensify efforts to track down all fleeing members of the criminal syndicate to ensure they are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin stated the command has zero tolerance for vandalism and economic sabotage. He directed all units to intensify efforts to apprehend fleeing suspects and urged the public to remain vigilant and provide credible information to safeguard public infrastructure.
