Police nab three over murder of two cops in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of involvement in the killing of two police officers in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area. The officers were on a routine stop-and-search duty on June 29, 2026, when they were ambushed and fatally shot. Their service AK-47 rifles were also stolen during the attack.

The Rivers State Police Command has recorded a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the gruesome murder of two police officers who were attacked while conducting a stop-and-search operation within the Aluu Division area on 29th June, 2026, in which one of the officers’ legs was fatally injured and later amputated.

According to a statement from the command's spokesperson, Blessing Agabe, the arrest of the suspects was a direct result of the State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju's, order for an immediate and thorough investigation. The directive emphasized the swift apprehension of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen firearms.

Following the tragic incident, which claimed the lives of the two officers and resulted in the theft of their service AK-47 rifles, the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, Olugbenga Adepoju, immediately visited the Division and directed that all operational and intelligence assets of the Command be deployed to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators and the recovery of the stolen police firearms.

Operatives from the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit, acting on credible intelligence and sustained tactical operations, successfully tracked the suspects to their hideout and made the arrests. The statement identified the arrested individuals as Maduabuchi Emeka, Chinedu Owhor, and Kamachi Joe. The police recovered three AK-47 rifles and one Scorpion rifle from the suspects, who have also been linked to other murder cases under investigation.
