Police arrest two Cross River vandals, recover iron poles

The Cross River State Police Command has apprehended two individuals, Kelvin Ignatius, 27, and Arnold Okon, 29, in connection with the vandalism and theft of property belonging to Akamkpa Quarry Limited. The arrests were made on Wednesday morning by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Akamkpa Local Government Area, following intelligence gathering.

During a routine patrol near Nsang Junction, the VCRU operatives intercepted the suspects and recovered three long iron poles. These poles are believed to have been stolen from the quarry site. Preliminary questioning revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to stealing the iron poles and admitted to involvement in the theft of other company assets.

Three long iron poles, suspected to have been stolen from the quarry, were recovered from the suspects. During preliminary questioning, they allegedly admitted stealing the items and disclosed their alleged involvement in the theft of other company property, including diesel, engine oil and truck tyres.

According to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the suspects also disclosed their alleged participation in the theft of other valuable items from the quarry, including diesel and truck tires. The police are currently conducting an investigation to recover the remaining stolen property and identify any other individuals involved in the vandalism network.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo-Geoffrey Ordue, commended the VCRU operatives for their swift action. He directed that a thorough investigation continue to ensure all culprits face justice. Ordue also urged the public to provide credible information regarding suspicious activities, particularly around critical infrastructure and industrial facilities, to aid crime prevention efforts.
