Police arrest two in East Jakarta for attempted motorcycle theft and shooting

Authorities in East Jakarta have apprehended two individuals suspected of attempting to steal a motorcycle, an act that allegedly involved shooting a civilian. The arrests were made in Lampung Timur Regency, Lampung Province, on Friday, July 24, 2026.

According to Police Commissioner Besar Iman Imanuddin, the Director of General Criminal Investigation at the Polda Metro Jaya, one of the arrested suspects is believed to be the shooter. The other suspect reportedly served as the getaway driver. The duo, identified by their initials ENR, 23, and RDS, 21, were taken into custody around 10:00 AM Western Indonesian Time.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 18, 2026, on Jalan Salemba Utan Barat in Matraman, East Jakarta. A resident attempting to stop the theft was shot in the right thigh. Following the shooting, both suspects fled the scene. During the arrest, police confiscated a silver-colored homemade revolver and a 9mm bullet. Investigators are currently examining the suspects to determine the origin of the firearm and explore any potential involvement in other criminal activities.

The suspects face charges under Article 479 in conjunction with Article 17 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) for attempted theft with violence. The investigation into the firearm's origin and potential links to other crimes is ongoing.
