Police Constable Arrested After Drugs Found in Lock-up; Two Inmates Detained

A police constable is among three individuals arrested following the discovery of a significant quantity of drugs within the lock-up of the Lumut Police Station in Manjung, Perak. The constable, in his 30s, was detained after an inspection on Tuesday morning revealed the illicit substances.

During the search, authorities found 16 plastic tubes containing approximately 109.54 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 16 tubes with 110.37 grams of suspected heroin, and 23 tubes with 142.31 grams of dried leaves believed to be cannabis. The total estimated value of the seized drugs is RM18,534.

When we inspected, we found 16 packets of plastic tubes containing suspected methamphetamine weighing 109.54 grams, 16 packets of plastic tubes containing suspected heroin (110.37 grams), and 23 packets of plastic tubes containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis (142.31 grams).

The inspection also led to the arrest of two male inmates, both in their 40s, who were present in the lock-up at the time. Preliminary urine tests indicated that the two inmates tested positive for methamphetamine, while the arrested police constable tested negative. All three are currently being held under a seven-day remand order, effective from Wednesday, to assist in the ongoing investigation.

Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd. Alwi Zainal Abidin stated that the investigation aims to determine how the drugs were brought into the lock-up and to ascertain the extent of each individual's involvement. The arrests were announced during a press conference following the official disposal of drug-related evidence by the Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.
