Police Foil Armed Robbery Attack, Recover Gun in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has demonstrated its commitment to public safety by thwarting an armed robbery attempt in Minna and making a subsequent arrest. According to Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred in the Sauka-Kahuta area where a gang of six armed individuals invaded a residential building in the early hours of Sunday. They managed to dispossess an occupant of two mobile phones before their operation was disrupted by resistance from another resident, who injured one of the assailants with a cutlass.

This resistance caused the robbers to flee in disarray, abandoning crucial evidence including a locally made pistol, a cutlass, slippers, and a flashlight. Police operatives swiftly responded to the scene, recovering the abandoned items and initiating efforts to track down the fleeing suspects. This successful intervention, as reported by The Punch, highlights the bravery of ordinary citizens in confronting criminal elements and the police's prompt action in securing the area and pursuing the perpetrators.

In a separate operation, the command also reported the arrest of a 28-year-old woman, Rukayya Mohammed, in Kontagora for alleged drug-related offenses. Mohammed reportedly confessed to selling drugs to the public, and further investigations are underway to identify her suppliers. These dual successes underscore the ongoing efforts of the Niger State Police to combat crime, from armed robbery to drug trafficking, within the state.
