Police investigate death of man at Sinae shelter in La Aguada

Police are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man found inside a National Emergency System shelter in La Aguada, Montevideo. He had spent the night at the facility, and initial information indicated that he had no signs of violent injury.

Authorities are treating natural causes as the main hypothesis for now, but an autopsy will determine how he died. Scientific Police officers examined the shelter and carried out the relevant forensic work. Other people staying there were evacuated while those procedures took place.

The facility stands at the corner of César Díaz and Cuareim streets. A witness said the man had been seen alive at about midnight. Police documented the operation with body cameras and notified the relevant authorities.

The report also details two homicide investigations elsewhere in Uruguay. In Pando, a 29-year-old man with a criminal record died after suffering gunshot wounds to the skull and chest inside a home. He was taken to hospital and treated in intensive care before his death was confirmed hours later.

In Cardal, police are investigating the killing of a 69-year-old woman. Her partner found her dead at home after becoming concerned when she failed to answer repeated calls. A medical examination determined that she had suffered a violent death, while investigators collected evidence and found clothing at the scene that reportedly belonged to a suspect.
