Police investigate fatal shooting during pursuit in Uruguay

The Prosecutor's Office in Tacuarembó, Uruguay, is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 30-year-old man who was shot by a police officer during a pursuit in Paso de los Toros. The incident occurred after police responded to a call about the man attempting to enter a property.

According to the police report, the man, who had a prior criminal record and an active arrest warrant, was found trying to force his way into a building. Upon realizing the police were present, he attempted to flee into a nearby field, initiating a chase. During the pursuit, the man resisted arrest, leading to a police officer discharging their service weapon.

Medical personnel confirmed the man's death at the scene. The police officer involved has been subjected to restrictive measures, including being required to fix his domicile and prohibited from leaving the country, pending the results of the investigation and forensic analyses.

In a separate but related incident, a police patrol car and a truck collided in the context of another police pursuit near the intersection of Route 102 and Camino del Andaluz. The individuals sought by police were reportedly traveling in the truck. The pursuit spanned several kilometers and involved gunfire. The collision occurred when the patrol car attempted to intercept the truck, resulting in damage to both vehicles but no injuries to the officers. A firearm was seized at the scene.
