Police issue appeal to drivers ahead of September 1

Kazakhstan's Interior Ministry has initiated the "Attention, Children!" campaign, a nationwide effort to bolster road safety for young pedestrians and cyclists as the new academic year approaches. The primary objective is to cultivate a secure environment for the nation's most vulnerable road users and safeguard their rights.

Enforcement will be heightened around schools and other educational facilities. Authorities are meticulously inspecting road infrastructure, including pedestrian crossings, road signs, and markings. Additionally, school bus operations and adherence to child transportation regulations are under scrutiny. Following these inspections, 548 orders have been issued to rectify identified violations.

The ministry stressed the critical role of drivers in ensuring children's safety. "Drivers should remember that observing speed limits and traffic rules, and most importantly, staying attentive behind the wheel and being prepared for children to appear unexpectedly on the road, are key to protecting our children’s lives," a statement read. The campaign aims to prevent traffic violations and injuries involving children.

Beyond driver responsibility, the ministry is also engaging parents, urging them to proactively remind their children about essential safety rules. These reminders cover safe conduct at school, on the street, during public transport use, and even in online interactions. The comprehensive approach seeks to minimize risks for children on and around roadways.
