Police kill alleged kidnapper, rescue victim in highway toll operation

A swift police operation at the Monterrico toll booth in Santa Anita, Peru, led to the rescue of a kidnapping victim and the arrest of two alleged members of a criminal organization. The intervention, which took place on Thursday, August 27, involved a tense confrontation between law enforcement and the suspects.

Agents from the National Police's Intelligence and Kidnapping Division were executing rescue efforts for the victim, identified as José Armando Villada Castañeda. The operation escalated into a firefight, resulting in the death of one unidentified member of the criminal group at the scene. Two other individuals, both Venezuelan nationals, were apprehended following the exchange.

The detained suspects have been identified as Israel Rodríguez Palacios and Saúl Bernal Campos. They are currently in police custody and undergoing investigation by the Kidnapping Division to determine their alleged involvement in the crime.

The operation received support from specialized units, including the Emergency Division and the elite Halcones unit. Police are continuing their investigation to fully reconstruct the events leading up to the kidnapping, identify the deceased suspect, and ascertain the extent of the detained individuals' participation.
