Police launch manhunt for killers of Lagos NURTW secretary, Ajiboye

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for the gunmen responsible for the fatal shooting of Toba Ajiboye, the Organizing Secretary of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), also known as Toba Ijaya. The incident occurred along Ikorodu Road in Lagos.

Ajiboye was rushed to St. Nicholas Hospital on Lagos Island after the attack, where medical experts pronounced him dead. Confusion erupted at the hospital between the police and supporters of the victim, as transporters prevented security operatives from accessing the facility to recover Ajiboye's body.

Investigation is ongoing to get the perpetrators, the Command has also deployed to strategic locations to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.

Abimbola Adebisi, spokesperson for the state Police Command, confirmed that investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. Security personnel have been deployed to strategic locations across the state to prevent any breakdown of law and order. The attack happened as Ajiboye was returning home from his childhood neighborhood in Fadeyi. Assailants reportedly intercepted his vehicle and fired shots through the car, leaving multiple bullet holes in the windshield and body.

Initial reports suggested Ajiboye and other occupants survived the shooting with injuries. However, subsequent reports confirmed the union official died from his wounds. Lagos NURTW Chairman Mustapha Adekunle, known as Sego, expressed profound grief over Ajiboye's death. He described the deceased as a loyal ally and trusted friend, whose commitment and dedication to the union and their political structure would be greatly missed.

"The news of the sudden passing of Comrade Toba Ajiboye has left me deeply saddened and heartbroken. It is difficult to come to terms with the loss of such a loyal, dependable, and committed ally," Adekunle stated in a tribute on social media. He further described Ajiboye as "more than an ally," calling him a pillar of TeamSego and SegoNation. "His friendship, unwavering support, and selfless dedication to the union over the years will forever remain etched in my heart," Sego added.
