Police officers rescue young kestrel in Magdeburg

In a heartwarming display of civic duty, two criminal investigators in Magdeburg came to the aid of a young kestrel found in distress. The officers discovered the fledgling bird on a sidewalk and adjacent street, repeatedly attempting to fly but failing, narrowly avoiding collisions with cyclists and cars.

Recognizing the vulnerability of the young bird and the absence of its parents, the officers made the decision to safely collect the kestrel. The bird offered no resistance as they carefully picked it up, ensuring its immediate safety from the dangers of the road.

The rescued kestrel was subsequently handed over to the environmental authorities. It has been transported to the Vogelhof in Loburg, located in the Jerichower Land district, where it will receive the necessary care and rehabilitation. The incident, which occurred last Friday, highlights the compassionate actions of local law enforcement towards wildlife.

Since neither the parent birds could be sighted nor was it possible to prevent the young kestrel from being harmed, the investigators decided to pick up the animal.
