Police received more than 5,400 emergency calls on the last Saturday of August

Paraguay’s National Police received 5,423 calls through its 911 emergency system on Saturday, Aug. 29. Only 1,388 led to interventions, while 4,035 calls were classified as non-emergencies.

The most common incidents included noise pollution, with 391 calls, followed by disturbances of the public peace with 195. Domestic violence accounted for 171 calls. Police also recorded 95 traffic accidents involving property damage and 90 accidents involving victims.

Among the non-emergency contacts, 2,586 ended immediately without a response and 503 involved silence. The system also logged 230 wrong numbers, 226 calls from children playing, and 180 requests for information.

The report further listed 136 calls involving an apparent mental-health crisis, 117 involuntary calls, 26 operational contacts, five obscene calls and two involving automated devices. It also recorded two calls containing insults.
