Police recover nine bodies in Niger community

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the grim discovery of nine bodies along the Wawa-Lumma road in the Borgu Local Government Area. Authorities suspect the victims were killed by bandits while traveling through the area.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, informed the News Agency of Nigeria that a joint team of police and military personnel was mobilized to the scene on Tuesday after receiving information about the bodies. The team successfully evacuated the deceased, and clearance operations have been intensified to ensure the area's security from further threats.

This recovery comes shortly after security agencies successfully rescued 308 individuals who had been abducted in separate incidents in Kwara and Niger states. Among the rescued were 163 people taken from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, and 145 others kidnapped in Niger State. These victims were found in the Kainji Lake National Park forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State, following a coordinated operation involving the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force.
