Ondo Govt warns monarchs against running detention centres, courts

Ondo State's traditional rulers have been put on notice by the state government, which has issued a stern warning against transforming their palaces into detention centers or establishing parallel courts.

Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, directly addressed the monarchs, urging them to cease engaging in land grabbing and other forms of self-help. He emphasized that their role should be to provide intelligence to official security agencies rather than acting as law enforcement or judicial bodies themselves.

The government's directive underscores a move to curb the overreach of traditional authorities into areas that fall under the purview of state-sanctioned security and judicial systems. This action aims to ensure that law and order are maintained through established governmental channels, preventing any duplication or usurpation of authority by traditional institutions.
