Police recover stolen electricity cables in Kebbi, arrest suspect

Police in Kebbi State have arrested a suspect and recovered a significant quantity of stolen electricity service cables, addressing a persistent issue of vandalism that has disrupted power supply to communities.

The recovery occurred on August 25, 2026, in the Kara area of Bunza town, following mounting concerns over the theft of electricity infrastructure. Operatives seized 10 bundles and seven sacks of cables, according to a statement from the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman.

The Command will continue to dismantle the activities of individuals and criminal networks responsible for the theft and vandalism of critical national infrastructure.

The police emphasized that the vandalism had plunged several communities into darkness. The arrested suspect, Mustapha Abubakar, has been arraigned in court in connection with the recovered items.

Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, affirmed the command's commitment to safeguarding critical national assets. He stated that the police would continue to dismantle criminal networks responsible for such acts and assured that perpetrators would face the full extent of the law. Hadejia also urged residents to provide timely, confidential information on suspicious activities.
