Police release Osun commissioner arrested over alleged shooting

The Osun State Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Mayowa Anjorin, has been released on bail by the state's Police Command following his arrest over an alleged shooting incident. The incident occurred on Saturday during a political procession in Ilesa.

Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed Anjorin's release, stating he was granted bail around 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. However, an Amotekun operative who was arrested alongside the commissioner, as well as the firearm found with the operative, remain in police custody. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Reports indicate that the police arrested Anjorin based on allegations that armed individuals, traveling in a government vehicle, alighted and fired shots into the vicinity of an ongoing political procession in Ilesa. These individuals were reportedly dressed in the uniform of the Osun State Security Network Agency, also known as the Amotekun Corps.

During the alleged shooting, three individuals sustained gunshot injuries and were subsequently taken to the hospital for medical attention. The police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the full details of the incident and the extent of involvement of all parties.
