Police rescue kidnap victim, arrest suspect in Kwara

Police in Kwara State, Nigeria, have successfully rescued a 26-year-old woman, Shekinat Mukaila, who was abducted from Wande Community in the Ora Kingdom of Ifelodun Local Government Area. The rescue operation was part of a series of intelligence-led actions announced by the state Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi.

On 15th July, 2026, the Kwara State Police Command received a distress report of a kidnapping incident at Wande Community under Ora Kingdom, where armed hoodlums abducted Miss Shekinat Mukaila, aged 26 years. During the attack, her father, the Baale of the community, sustained gunshot injuries while attempting to resist the assailants.

Mukaila was kidnapped on July 15 when armed assailants attacked the community. During the invasion, her father, identified as the Baale (traditional ruler) of Wande, sustained gunshot wounds while attempting to resist the attackers. He has since been treated and discharged from the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

Following the distress report, the Kwara State Police Command swiftly deployed tactical and intelligence assets. The investigation led to the arrest of Aliyu Mohammed, who is alleged to have collaborated with the kidnappers. Police analyzed communication channels used by the criminal syndicate during ransom negotiations.

Intelligence gathered from the investigation allowed security operatives to intensify targeted operations, culminating in Mukaila's safe rescue without injury. The police confirmed that sustained operations are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the syndicate who are still at large. Commissioner Adekimi emphasized the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged the public to continue providing credible information.
