Police reveal motive in Brunei celebrity's assault on friend in Jakarta

Jakarta police have revealed the motive behind the alleged assault of a Brunei national, which resulted in the victim's death. The suspect, identified as MIA, a 33-year-old celebrity, is accused of attacking MHF, 30, in the Blok M area of South Jakarta.

Authorities suspect the incident was fueled by anger stemming from a misunderstanding between MIA and a witness, who was a friend of the victim. MHF reportedly intervened to defend his friend, leading to a verbal dispute that escalated into a physical fight. "Based on preliminary investigations, the motive for the assault is suspected to be anger," stated Kombes Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

Further investigation suggests MIA may have been under the influence of alcohol during the confrontation. Hermanto noted that MHF had sent a voice message challenging the suspect to a fight before they met at the scene. The situation reportedly became more confrontational upon their meeting.

MIA allegedly struck MHF on the head with a paper bag containing a drink bottle, causing the victim to fall. MHF received medical treatment but was later pronounced dead. Police arrested MIA in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, and are investigating the case under articles related to assault resulting in death.
