Police Seek Owners of Over 120 Vehicles Damaged by Metal Debris on Expressway

Vietnamese traffic police are calling on owners of more than 120 vehicles that suffered flat tires on the North-South expressway to come forward. The damage was caused by sharp metal fragments scattered across the road in the Dak Lak section.

Authorities are collecting evidence to determine responsibility and ensure owners can claim compensation. The incident occurred between midnight and noon on August 6, when traffic police patrolling the expressway section from Da Nang to Van Phong discovered numerous sharp metal pieces posing a serious safety risk. Many drivers expressed frustration, suspecting "nail sabotage."

The debris caused a series of vehicles traveling at high speeds to get flat tires, forcing them to stop in the emergency lane. Preliminary statistics from authorities and the road management unit indicate that over 120 cars had their tires damaged. Rescue teams and road managers collected more than 10 kilograms of scrap metal fragments from various sections of the highway.

Following the discovery, traffic police from Unit 5, in coordination with road management units, reviewed surveillance footage. They traced the origin of the debris to a camouflaged truck carrying industrial waste. The truck, with license plate 36H-188.xx and semi-trailer 36RM-037.xx, was identified as the source of the metal fragments. The driver, identified as V.D.T., 36, from Thanh Hoa province, was stopped around 9:30 a.m. on August 7.

The traffic police department is urging vehicle owners to provide their personal details, vehicle information, and precise details of the incident, including the time and location where the damage occurred or where the metal fragments were found. They also request documentation of damages, such as towing, tire repair, or replacement costs, to support the investigation and potential claims.
