Lisbon authorities are bolstering police presence in the historic Baixa district following a stray bullet incident that injured a Swedish tourist. The 41-year-old woman was wounded in the torso during a street dispute between two groups and is in stable condition after surgery.

The Police of Public Security (PSP) reported that the victim sought help at a nearby cafe. The shooting occurred as a fight escalated between groups known to frequent the Baixa area, which often includes street vendors and performers. Authorities have apprehended one suspect and are searching for another.

The Ministry of the Interior stated that police presence was already increased in June and will be adjusted as needed. The Lisbon City Council will also step up controls on illegal commercial activities contributing to public space degradation.
