Polish Defense Minister Warns of Escalating Russian Provocations

Poland's Minister of National Defense has issued a stark warning regarding escalating Russian activities along the country's eastern border and within its airspace and maritime domain. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that while a full-scale kinetic attack akin to that seen in Ukraine is not anticipated, Poland must prepare for a series of dangerous provocations.

Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed to recent incidents, including the interception of Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea and the downing of drones in Romania, as examples of Russia's increasing assertiveness. He anticipates that these provocations will manifest as drone incursions, GPS signal jamming, and sabotage operations such as arson and the planting of explosives within the European Union. The minister also cautioned against heightened activity from Russian troll farms aiming to sow discord, urging the public to verify information sources.

Despite these threats, the minister assured that Poland is actively bolstering its defense capabilities. A key focus is the development of a modern drone army, with plans to equip every soldier with a personal drone. The military is acquiring reconnaissance, attack, and kamikaze drones, ensuring their widespread integration across all units. This modernization effort includes simplifying legal regulations for drone acquisition and operation.

In a separate matter, Kosiniak-Kamysz expressed strong disapproval of the President's decision to send a fuel company tax law to the Constitutional Tribunal. He argued that this action blocks 5 billion zlotys that could have lowered fuel prices for Polish families and farmers, asserting that the President is defending foreign fuel corporations over Polish citizens. This dispute is also causing delays in civilian preparations for defense programs, though the government intends to reallocate funds to address the issue.
