Polish Drone Factory Fire Investigated as Possible Terrorist Act

A fire at a Polish drone factory is being investigated as a possible terrorist act, placing a major defense manufacturer at the center of a sensitive security inquiry.

The blaze broke out shortly after midnight at a WB Electronics facility in Skarżysko-Kamienna, in central Poland. Firefighters extinguished it in about two hours. Police and officers from Poland’s Internal Security Agency then began initial checks at the site.

Prosecutors said the investigation covers suspected participation in the activities of a foreign intelligence service against Poland, as well as a terrorist offense involving the deliberate ignition of the fire with a device containing flammable materials. They did not disclose how the device allegedly operated or name the country suspected of involvement.

The case comes as Poland and other NATO members report growing concern over sabotage, espionage and other operations described as hybrid warfare and associated with Russia. Poland has provided extensive support to Ukraine and serves as a major transit route for military and humanitarian aid bound for Kyiv. It borders both Russia and Ukraine and has also reported incidents involving drones or missiles identified as originating in Russia.

Investigators are continuing to establish the cause of the fire and determine who may be responsible.
