Polish Identity Report Criticized for Errors; Association Denies Funding Link

A report titled 'Poles' Self-Portrait,' intended to analyze Polish identity and the country's image, has sparked significant public debate and criticism. Experts and internet users have pointed out numerous factual and linguistic errors, suggesting the use of artificial intelligence. These errors include incorrect data, peculiar phrasing like 'traditional breadness,' surprising claims about Mandarin language proficiency among young Poles, and geographical mistakes such as placing Katowice in northern Poland.

The Association of Conferences and Congresses in Poland (SKKP), representing the meetings and events industry, has responded to the controversy. The organization confirmed it signed a contract with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism on June 5, 2025, for the 'Poland Brand - Tourism Sub-strategy' project, receiving approximately 180,000 Polish zloty. SKKP, as the formal beneficiary, was responsible for preparing the tourism sub-strategy document, which incorporated findings from research, analyses, conferences, and expert discussions.

The controversial report 'Poles' Self-Portrait' was not part of the implemented public task, was not commissioned within its framework, nor financed with the granted subsidy.

However, SKKP emphasized that the criticized 'Poles' Self-Portrait' report was not part of this public project, nor was it commissioned or funded by the grant. The association stated that public funds were used for their intended purpose and the project was properly accounted for and accepted by the ministry. Barbara Mróz-Gorgoń, who was identified as the main coordinator for the 'Poland Brand' project, was also listed on the title page and under the 'team' section of the controversial report.
