Polish LGBT+ group campaigns for gay fatherhood via surrogacy amid German scandal

Poland's Kampania Przeciw Homofobii (KPH), a prominent LGBT+ organization, is actively advocating for the legalization of surrogacy to support gay men in their path to fatherhood. The group is currently fundraising for a publication aimed at "rainbow fathers and men planning parenthood," which will offer practical guidance on surrogacy procedures.

The initiative comes at a time when surrogacy has ignited a political scandal in Germany. A politician from the CDU/CSU party and his husband revealed they had become parents through a surrogate mother. This revelation caused controversy because surrogacy is illegal in Germany, carrying a penalty of up to three years in prison. Despite the legal prohibition, the politician had previously rejected calls to relax the ban while serving as health minister. Although he reportedly used a surrogate in the United States, circumventing German law, the incident led to his resignation as faction leader.

KPH emphasizes that LGBT+ individuals already become parents through various means, including surrogacy, which occurs across Europe and in Poland. The organization aims to normalize and facilitate this process for gay men in Poland, providing them with practical advice on selecting egg donors, conducting embryo screening, and choosing clinics. The guide is intended to offer "practical tips and recommendations" to assist men in their journey to parenthood.
