Polish Power Company Sends Crews to Aid Lithuania After Storm

Lithuania is receiving crucial support from Poland as it grapples with the aftermath of a devastating storm, one of the most severe in decades. Polish electricity operator PGE Dystrybucja has sent two specialized crews, comprising 11 experts and equipped with two lifting platforms and three service vehicles, to aid in the restoration efforts.

The scale of this storm is such that every additional professional brigade is extremely important today. Our neighbors not only understand well what such a large-scale natural disaster means – they themselves face similar challenges and know how complex the work ahead is. Therefore, we especially appreciate the decision of our Polish colleagues to come and help us precisely when help is needed most.

The Polish engineers began their work early Friday morning in the Marijampolė region. Renaldas Radvila, head of Lithuania's electricity distribution operator ESO, emphasized the importance of this timely assistance, noting that the scale of the storm necessitates every available professional brigade. He highlighted the shared understanding and experience between the two nations, as Poland also faces similar challenges.

Radvila underscored the significance of regional cooperation and mutual aid, stating, "Poland is not only our neighbor but also a strategic partner – situations like this clearly show the importance of regional cooperation and readiness to help each other." He explained that the primary challenge in restoring power after such a widespread disaster is the availability of human resources, even with sufficient technical equipment.

ESO is managing thousands of network damages across the country, making the speed and professionalism of qualified crews essential. The Polish crews will work alongside ESO teams in the southern regions of the country. Earlier in the week, Lithuania's transmission grid operator, Litgrid, also redirected its resources and offered assistance to ESO for distribution network repairs after completing its own storm-related tasks.
