Traffic disruptions expected on Lithuania's A1 highway near Kaunas due to bridge repairs

Motorists traveling on Lithuania's main A1 highway towards Kaunas should prepare for significant traffic disruptions over the next two weeks. Temporary lane closures will be implemented to facilitate ongoing construction work on the Kruna bridge, a vital crossing on one of the busiest sections of the highway.

From August 31 to September 11, the first lane heading towards Kaunas will be closed on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. The company "Tilsta," responsible for the repairs, stated that these short-term restrictions are necessary for the installation of access roads to the Kruna bridge.

This construction is part of a larger project to build a second bridge over the Kruna river. While one new bridge is already operational, the second is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The "Via Lietuva" authority highlighted that this section of the A1 is one of the most heavily trafficked.

Drivers are strongly advised to allocate additional time for their journeys during the restricted periods. The closures, though limited to specific hours, could lead to considerable congestion and delays as traffic is funneled into fewer lanes on this critical transport artery.
