Politician and Lawyer Ahmet Güryüz Ketenci Laid to Rest

Ahmet Güryüz Ketenci, a former Republican People’s Party lawmaker from Istanbul and a lawyer, has been laid to rest at the age of 88.

Ketenci graduated from Istanbul University’s Faculty of Law and took part in the active youth movements of his time, including the April 28, 1960 demonstrations. He was also the former husband of Şükran Soner, a Cumhuriyet columnist and board member of the Cumhuriyet Foundation who died on September 1.

His funeral prayer took place after midday prayers at Istanbul’s Ataköy 5th Section Ömer Duruk Mosque. He was then buried at Gül Vadi Cemetery in Esenyurt.

The ceremony was attended by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan, Socialist Party central executive committee member Alper Taş, Bakırköy Mayor Ayşegül Ovalıoğlu, former parliamentary speaker İsmet Yılmaz, former Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Murat Karayalçın, former mayors, current and former CHP lawmakers, and other political figures.

Representatives of the Turkish Education Association, the Association for the Support of Contemporary Life, the Contemporary Education Foundation, the TEMA Foundation and the Turkish Education Foundation sent wreaths to the ceremony, along with several political figures and local officials.
