Poll: Poland's right-wing has two clear leaders after PiS split

Following a significant split within Poland's ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party, a new poll suggests that Jarosław Kaczyński and Karol Nawrocki have emerged as the two leading figures on the Polish right. The survey, conducted between July 24-25 among 1,013 representative Polish adults, sought to identify who is perceived as the main leader of the right-wing movement after the internal division.

Jarosław Kaczyński, the current leader of PiS, was identified by 20% of respondents as the primary leader of the right. Karol Nawrocki, the president, secured the second position with 18% of the vote. These two figures are the only ones to achieve double-digit support in the poll. The results indicate a potential shift in the political landscape, with both figures vying for influence within the conservative movement.

Mateusz Morawiecki, the former prime minister who is reportedly facing expulsion from PiS along with nearly 40 other lawmakers, was named by 9% of respondents as a potential leader. Sławomir Mentzen, a leader of the New Hope party and part of the Confederation coalition, received 7% of the support. Notably, 42% of respondents were unable to name a clear leader for the right-wing.

Among PiS voters specifically, 34% believe Jarosław Kaczyński will remain the party's main leader, while 26% see President Nawrocki in that role. Nine percent of PiS voters indicated Mateusz Morawiecki. The poll also included party preference data, showing KO leading with 32.75% support, followed by PiS with 24.14%, and Confederation with 13.85% in one scenario. The inclusion of Morawiecki's association, Rozwój Plus, altered these figures slightly in a second variant of the party preference poll.
