Poll: Polish public mood sours, political outlook darkens

Polish public sentiment has taken a noticeable downturn, with a CBOS survey revealing that in early July, 50% of respondents felt the country was moving in the wrong direction. Only 28% expressed a positive outlook, while 22% remained undecided.

This represents a decline from mid-June, when 48% held negative views and 31% were optimistic. The July figures show a 3-point decrease in positive assessments and a 2-point increase in negative ones.

The survey highlights that younger individuals (aged 35-44) and rural inhabitants are more likely to express negative views. Personal financial well-being also strongly correlates with national outlook; 76% of those reporting poor financial conditions negatively assessed the country's situation, compared to 45% among those with good financial conditions.

Political affiliation plays a significant role, with supporters of the ruling Civic Coalition and New Left expressing more positive views. Conversely, critical assessments dominate among opposition party voters, particularly those of the Confederation.

Looking ahead, Poles are increasingly pessimistic about the next year. The percentage expecting deterioration rose from 29% to 30%, while those anticipating improvement dropped to 14%. A significant 46% believe the situation will remain unchanged. Political outlooks have also worsened, with 51% now viewing the political climate negatively, the highest figure for this government's term. Optimism remains low, with only 11% expecting improvement.
