Portable Apologizes to Fans After Boxing Match Drama

Street-pop singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has issued an apology to his fans and the event organizers following his disqualification from a celebrity boxing rematch against Nollywood actor Charles Okocha. The singer walked out of the bout on Friday night, leading to his disqualification.

We sincerely apologize to the organisers, Balmoral Group, the entire event team, our fans, friends, family, and everyone who came out to support Portable at tonight’s celebrity boxing event.

In a statement released on Saturday by his management, Zeh Nation/Dr Zeh, Portable expressed regret for the abrupt end to the highly anticipated match. The management acknowledged the disappointment caused by his decision to step away after the first round, appealing for respect for his perspective. They took full responsibility for the disappointment and expressed gratitude for the ongoing support shown to the singer.

We understand the disappointment caused by the outcome of the fight and by Portable’s decision to step away after the first round. While emotions can run high in moments like these, we respectfully ask everyone to respect his decision and perspective.

The management also thanked the organizers, Balmoral Group, for staging the event, despite its dramatic conclusion, and apologized for any inconvenience caused. The statement assured fans that lessons had been learned from the experience and promised a stronger performance in future contests.

Portable had previously claimed he left the fight because Okocha allegedly bit and choked him, describing the altercation as more akin to wrestling than boxing. The rematch concluded controversially when Portable exited the ring before the end of the opening round. Although he later returned, officials disqualified him, awarding the victory to Okocha.
