Portugal Thanks Croatia for Rescuing Lost Citizens

Portugal has extended its profound thanks to Croatia for the diligent efforts undertaken by Croatian authorities in the rescue operation of Portuguese citizens who experienced a shipwreck off the Croatian coast. Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel conveyed his "deep gratitude and recognition" to his Croatian counterpart, Gordan Grlić Radman, for the tireless work involved.

The incident occurred when four Portuguese friends, all around 30 years old, set out on a small rubber boat from their camp towards Senj in the early hours of Wednesday. They were caught in a severe storm, which caused their boat to sink in the waters of the Velebit Channel. The group subsequently went missing.

Authorities confirmed the rescue of two individuals alive, bringing relief to their families and the involved nations. However, the ministry's statement also conveyed deep sorrow over the death of one Portuguese citizen, extending sincere condolences to the family and friends. The search continues for the fourth missing Portuguese national, with Croatian authorities maintaining close contact with the Portuguese embassy and government.

The Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Croatian authorities are persisting with search and rescue operations to locate the final missing Portuguese citizen.
