POWERFUL! Estonian athletes win two medals with strong records on the final day of the U20 World Championships!

Estonian track and field athletes delivered a powerful performance on the final day of the U20 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, securing two additional medals for the nation.

Sten-Erik Iir earned a silver medal in the discus throw, achieving a new personal best of 65.42 meters. This impressive throw places him second on Estonia's all-time U20 discus rankings. The gold medal went to local favorite Simon Rosseli with 66.39 meters, while Joseph Salmon took bronze with 64.37 meters.

Shortly after, Henri Apri captured a silver medal in the pole vault. The 19-year-old faced early challenges, needing three attempts to clear his opening height of 5.20 meters. However, he went on to clear 5.65 meters, securing at least a bronze, and then surpassed his personal best by clearing 5.75 meters on his first attempt, establishing a new Estonian U20 record and solidifying his second-place finish.

Apri's silver medal performance came after a tense competition where French athlete Zackaria Dia secured gold by clearing 5.80 meters. Apri will now travel to Birmingham to make his senior debut at the European Championships, with qualification rounds scheduled for Friday. Estonia's medal tally at the championships was previously opened by heptathlete Mia Mireia Uusorg, who also won a silver medal.
